HBG-ch.1&2/DDP-ch.1

DDP-ch1
This chapter mainly talked about the different types of careers/freelance jobs that are in the broad field of graphic design. In the chapter the author discusses how it is important to design your portfolio in order to catch the attention of the type of clients or employers you would like to work for. You should have a well put together portfolio that has variety, style, technology and craft, process, and concept/creativity. Although it should not have too much variety because possible employers might think you haven’t found what you are good at and you may lose the job.

HBg-ch1&2
The thing that I found most interesting about these chapters was how they say that going to school for design is really just learning how to learn. When you graduate with all the knowledge you picked up from all you design courses, you think you have it made and will know how to do everything a job throws at you. However, design keeps evolving and you have to evolve with it. You need to tae into mind all the lessons you learned about the process of design in order to make it. Every new opportunity is a new time to use the lessons you learned about learning how to create the best design.
Another thing I found interesting was about how communication is a two way street. You need to not only communicate to your client about what you propose to do and your design ideas and processes, but they also have to communicate with you. You need to listen to your client in order to assess both of your needs. The designers needs to make what they want to design, along with creating it so that it fits under what the client wants.
